New feature giving details of Panthers known to have been auctioned, if you have details of any to be included please let me know. These details should be only taken for 'interest' purposes, as I have seen auction prices vary from the sublime to the ridiculous!!

This particular car was advertised to be auctioned at what I would call an Antique auction house, it was certainly not a specialist car auction.

It was advertised as one owner, 1973 3.8 Jaguar engine, low mileage (circa 13,000) and had been in storage for a number of years. The guide price given was £6,000 to £8,000. Naturally this led to a lot of interest!! I had several calls myself from potential buyers asking 'what is it worth?'

The paintwork initially looked quite good, close inspection showed at least one 'scab' area and a chip to the leading wing, another person pointed out a 'mis-match' of the yellow on the bonnet to the rest of the car.

It was said to be Ferrari Yellow, not everyone's taste, but I quite liked it!

A considerable amount of rechroming was required to include the radiator surround, beam axle assembly and windscreen frame. The front mesh grill had lost all it's chrome.

The seats showed considerable wear with the passenger side having a large tear on the seat base, as seen in the picture.

It may also be seen that it was built with 'suicide doors'

The wheels showed signs of rust but may clean to an acceptable degree, although it would certainly need  a new set of tyres to replace the 30 year old originals!

The dashboard was in a very poor state and would need to be re-veneered at least.

Although it has the knurled Nuts for fixing side screens, there were no side screens with the car as they had been lost.

It was said that it came with a Hard Top.

The engine did run and sounded quite alright, although there were signs of several oil leaks. It also leaked petrol when running from various unions and there was some wonderment as to how it came to posses a years MOT!!

Generally the engine was dirty/rusty and it may yet require further attention as it starts to put on some mileage

The exhaust appeared and sounded OK, it also appeared to have a new stainless end pipe, this ended just in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side.

As expected the 'World and His Wife' were there, I bumped into various Club members, past and present and it soon became apparent no one was going to buy a 'cheapie'. Although it has to be said most viewers there agreed, that with the work required the price guide was about right, especially bearing in mind the extortionate 15% plus VAT buyers premium!!

The high bid of £11,500 went to one of the many telephone bidders who would then have to pay in excess of £13,500 to take the car away.
