| PANTHER MONICA
The Monica, a four door sports saloon was developed in
the late sixties/early seventies by Chris Lawrence for a Mr Jean Tastevin,
named after his wife Monique. The engine originally fitted was a prototype 3.5
litre ‘Martin V8’; this had many problems and was eventually superseded by
the big lazy Chrysler 5.6 litre unit. This gave a claimed maximum speed of
150mph; it was intended that later cars would have the engine size increased
to 5.9 litres! By 1974 the Monica was finally in full production at no more
than one or two a week, priced in Britain at around £14,000 it was one of the
more expensive cars available in this country.
